Campo alle Comete comes from the idea of bringing the experience, production philosophy and know-how of Feudi di San Gregorio in Bolgheri. Keenly aware of the history related to the territory, the wine company undertook to find the right expression creating wines able to combine the area’s characteristics and its soul. Campo alle Comete, literally Field of the Comets, is the name of the ancient toponym, which reminds us of an immaginary and magic world, now vanished. A universewhereimmaginationruns free, whereyou can live a dream with open eyes.

History:

Campo alle Comete winery is located in the heart of Bolgheri, it is a showpiece and outpost in Tuscany of Tenute Capaldo, the group of the namesake family also owner of Feudi di San Gregorio in Campania region. The estate extends for 25 hectares of vineyardsfocused on Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc e Vermentino grapes. It is the encounter between the consolidated tradition of Feudi di San Gregorio and one of the most prestigious wine areas in the world. Thisishow Campo alle Comete came to be, a world suspendedbetween dream and reality thatinspired the artist Nicoletta Ceccoli whocreated the painting from whichour labels havebeendrawn. Sea, cypresses, vine-rows, wine-cellars, plus light, incredibleamounts of it from the sun, and reflected from the Tyrrhenian Sea thatforms the western boundary of thiswinegrowing area whichisbordered on the east by an undulating line of hillsthatenfold the area, asifprotectingthisprecious Tuscan enclave. This is the scenario that surrends Bolgheri’s appellation, in the heart of Castagneto Carducci. Bolgheri is a magic place, first of all because of its beauty, where nature blends in with winery architectures and traditional rural buildings, and also because it revealed in a very short time its vocation to viticulture becoming one of the most popular and celebrated territories well beyond national borders. Most of our vineyards are part of the Doc Bolgheri: the oldest are dated 2001, with density ranging from 5.000 to 6.500 vines per hectare. New vineyards of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot were added and are located on the enchanting Donoratico Tower hill. There the soil is diversified, stony and rich in clay. Campo alle Comete, literally Field of the Comets, is the name of the ancienttoponymindicanting the best place to look at the stars and showingimmediately the uniquenessthatispired the company’s image and our labels. Near the provincial road, the Via Bolgherese, lies an imposing villa, renderedalmostinvisible by loftypines. A small vineyard separates it from the cellar, a circular building set in natural surroundings. Inside of it there is our barrelroom where our wine ages in tonneaux and barriques arranged in a semicircle. Our estate welcomes over 2000 wine tourists every year who come to visit us to appreciate the winery, the vineyards and to attend our tastings and events.
