Riserva Naturale Tombolo di Cecina

The pinewood Nature Riserve was planted in the 1800s by the Grand Dukes of Tuscany to protect the crops. Today, it is considered the oldest coastal forest composed not only of pines but also of holm oaks, oak trees, cork oaks and other typical shrubs of the scrub, such as strawberry trees and common myrtle.

Museo Archeologico di Cecina

A chance to learn about the very ancient history of this town, whose first remains date back to the Neolithic Age. The archaeological museum is house to the grave goods of the necropolis of Casa Nocera, a settlement located near the town center of Casale Marittimo, where members of an important Etruscan family were buried.

Cecina

Cecina, door to the northern Maremma, is the heart of the Etruscan Coast. Situated at the bottom of the green Val di Cecina crossed by the homonymous river, the town is set between an arch of rolling hills and the infinity of the sea.
The toponym Cecina is of Etruscan origin and is connected to the surname of an authoritative Etruscan family from Volterra, the Kaikna (or Ceicna, Keikna) known in Roman times as Caecina and variously established throughout the Val di Cecina. In the locality of San Vincenzino you can find the remains of a Roman villa belonging to a member of this family, a fascinating residential complex with mosaics, thermal baths and a unicum with a spectacular underground cistern. Part of the artefacts found here and in the surrounding areas can be found in the large rooms of the Guerrazzi Civic Archeological Museum, located in the 18th century Villa La Cinquantina.
Cecina is a modern, dynamic and ever-expanding town, known for its traffic restricted center, a small island full of meeting places, shops, restaurants and wine shops.

Cecina

From the center, along a scenic avenue of pines, you reach Marina di Cecina that is very appreciated by tourists for its soft and sandy beach, the blue sea, the many services available, the bathing establishments, the accommodation facilities and the wide rage of sports that can be practiced, also thanks to the modern and functional tourist port right at the mouth of the Cecina river.
Near the sandy beach you can find maritime pines and other typical species of the Mediterranean scrub separated by undulations of actual dunes that form the Biogenetic Nature Reserve called Tomboli di Cecina that runs along the coast for 15 kilometres. The flor is rich, especially at the end of winter when the grass is enriched with the wonderful colours and scents of immense expanses of cyclamen. There are also many mammals such as wild rabbits, squirrels, hedgehogs and porcupines.
The cuisine with both meat and fish dishes highlights the many typical goods of the area with production of cheeses, preserves, cured meats perfectly paired with the wines of the DOC Terratico of Bibbona.
