Castello

In the past the castle was used to defend the coast and the surrounding valley. While walking around the alleys of Casale, you can find some elements such as the defensive walls, that have been incorporated by the urban landscape.

Casa del Camarlingo

This is one of the town’s oldest buildings, since the camarlingo was a sort of treasurer in charge of collecting taxes and was appointed directly by the feudal lord.

Torre dell’orologio e il Palazzo della Canonica

The palace is situated in front of the Town Hall and was part of the city walls. It was built in 1940 with materials from a Roman villa. For this reason, inside you can find and visit the sala romana where other artefacts from the villa can be found, such as a mosaic floor.

Casale Marittimo

 

Casale Marittimo is situated in the Maremma Pisana and rises on what used to be an old Etruscan settlement. Here the remains of the Etruscan necropolis of Casa Nocera were found, together with the statues of the Principi Guerrieri, the oldest statues of European art history and that are now kept at the National Archaeological Museum of Florence. In1862 Casale nelle Maremme became Casale di Val di Cecina, until 1900 when it took its current name..

Casale Marittimo is situated in the Maremma Pisana and rises on what used to be an old Etruscan settlement. Here the remains of the Etruscan necropolis of Casa Nocera were found, together with the statues of the Principi Guerrieri, the oldest statues of European art history and that are now kept at the National Archaeological Museum of Florence.
